Asphalt is a type of tar or bitumen that’s used to bind and seal
aggregate materials like stone and gravel. It’s a mixture of mineral
oils, resins, and other additives. Asphalt is a good choice for repair
because it’s flexible, durable, and has excellent adhesion to most
surfaces.
Asphalt pavement repair is the process of replacing a small section
of your asphalt driveway or parking lot with new asphalt while leaving
the rest of the asphalt intact.
Repairing your asphalt will extend its lifespan and prevent more
extensive repairs from being required later on. If you wait too long to
fix your cracks or holes, they’ll get bigger and more expensive to fix
as time goes on.
The process starts by removing any debris from the damaged area
of the road. Then, a layer of gravel is spread across the entire area.
Next, a layer of hot mix asphalt (HMA) is spread on top of that gravel
layer to fill in all cracks and holes. Finally, a final layer of HMA is
spread over the entire patch to finish off the project.
Yes! In general, it’s much less expensive to repair an existing
driveway or walkway than it is to replace it. You’ll also save money in
the long run because asphalt repairs last for years longer than new
pavement.
Cracks in asphalt are caused by several factors, including weather
conditions (e.g., rain, snow), plant growth, and vehicles driving over
them repeatedly over time. Cracks can also occur due to poor
drainage or improper installation practices during construction or
reconstruction projects involving asphalt surfaces (e.g., failing to
compact properly during installation).
If there are cracks in your asphalt, it’s best to call a professional
right away. Cracks can lead to bigger problems if they aren’t
addressed in a timely manner. Also, if the cracks are wide enough,
water can seep into them and cause damage to the underlying
support structure. If you need help determining whether your asphalt
needs repair, our technicians will be happy to assist you!
The amount of time it takes for your driveway to be repaired
depends on how large an area needs to be repaired. If only one small
section needs repair, then it can be done fairly quickly—probably
within just a few hours or so. If you have multiple sections that need
repair, though, it may take longer than a day or two.
